Helinox Chair One

A real chair that packs small enough to bring when a full-size camp throne is too much.

Overview

A small chair earns its place when it is comfortable enough to use and compact enough to stop debating.

Helinox basically built a camp chair out of tent poles. The Chair One uses DAC aluminum and a hub system that snaps together in seconds, then the fabric slings over the frame and suddenly you are off the ground in a real seat. It feels surprisingly solid for how little space it takes up in the bin.

Packed, it is roughly the size of a fat Nalgene. Unpacked, it sits low and slightly reclined, which is perfect for fires and long nights talking, maybe a little less perfect if your knees hate getting out of lower chairs. Most reviews from long time owners say the same thing I notice on trips: it just disappears into the background because it works every single time.

Best for Car camping, short hikes, lake days, concerts, and people who want real sitting comfort without bulky chair storage.
Not for People who need tall seats, armrests, heavy reclining comfort, or budget-first chair shopping.

Best role: the small chair you actually bring when a full-size camp chair is too bulky but sitting on a cooler is getting old.

Choose It / Skip It
Choose it when You want a real seat for car camping, lake days, concerts, short walk-ins, or any trip where packed size matters more than armrests.
Skip it when You need a taller chair, integrated cup holders, soft-sand stability without feet, or plush basecamp comfort for hours at a time.

This is compact comfort, not a recliner. For long basecamp hangs, pair it with a bigger chair instead of asking one chair to do everything.

My Notes

This is the chair I bring when sitting on coolers and tailgates gets old but I still care about packed size.

  • Use a ground sheet or feet on soft sand if it sinks.
  • Do not expect lounge-chair comfort from a bottle-sized chair.
  • Keep the stuff sack with it; small chair parts love disappearing.
Dial in the camp seating

A good chair turns a quick stop into a real camp.

Pair this with a bigger reclining chair at base camp and a simple stool or pad for quick breaks so you always have the right spot to sit.
