The approach is slow, the breeze is resin-sweet, and the shoreline stays calm at sunrise. This is a place to keep groups small, voices low, and camps tidy. Expect primitive conditions—no hookups, services limited or absent—and bring everything you need for a self-contained stay.

Getting There

Approach on paved highways, then transition to long stretches of graded dirt with occasional ruts and washboards. Drive conservatively; elk and cattle share the corridor.

  1. Top off fuel, water, and ice before leaving town—assume no services near the lake.
  2. Air down a touch for washboard comfort; re-inflate before the highway.
  3. Arrive early for calm water and to sort permits without pressure.

If roads are wet, turn back rather than rutting the corridor—come back when it's dry.

Camping Info
  • Primitive only: No hookups; facilities limited or seasonal.
  • Fires: Only when legal. Cold-out, then pack out ash/foil.
  • Boating: Hand-launch friendly. PFDs for every person on the water.
  • Etiquette: Small, quiet camps; keep a low profile on shorelines.
  • Cultural respect: Treat land and water with the same care you'd give a place of worship.
My Notes

This is a "whisper" lake for me: early coffee, slow paddles, no music, and a sweep before I leave for micro-trash. Here's the loop that works:

  • Blue hour: East shore for mirror water and sky bands.
  • Midday: Shade tarp + nap; wind often rises after 11.
  • Golden hour: West bank silhouettes of pines; polarizer off for glow.
  • Exit ritual: 10-minute trash sweep beyond my footprint—feels right here.
