Overview

A shaded, reservable Lake Mary basecamp that keeps the trip simple: short drive, usable sites, and quick water access.

Lakeview works when you want a predictable Flagstaff-area campground without giving up the pine-forest feel. Sites are flat, shaded, and practical, with tables and rings and a quick hop to Upper Lake Mary for paddling, fishing, or an evening shoreline walk.

Nights cool off nicely, mornings carry bird noise, and wind can wander through the trees. Treat it like a comfortable basecamp for Lake Mary and the Ashurst/Marshall area.

Best for
Families, first-time campers, Lake Mary days, and anyone who wants shade without a long dirt road.
Watch out for
Popular weekends, seasonal water, occasional road/lake activity noise.

Best version of the trip: reserve ahead, choose an outer-loop site, and use golden hour for the lake instead of camp chores.

Getting There

From Flagstaff, drive south on Lake Mary Road (FH 3). Lakeview is signed along the corridor near the lake; the approach is fully paved.

  1. Fuel, water, ice in town—then head out FH 3.
  2. Watch for cyclists and wildlife; speeds vary with traffic.
  3. Check the kiosk on arrival for any seasonal notes or closures.

No reservation? Aim for earlier in the day; turnover is your friend.

My Notes

Lakeview is my "easy close-to-the-water" pick. Coffee in camp, short walk to the lake, and enough shade to make mid-day comfortable. If I'm bringing family or folks new to camping, this is the stress-free option.

  • Timing: Weeknights are relaxed. Fridays fill fast after work hours.
  • Setup: Shade tarp + camp rug keeps dust down and lunch chill.
  • Play: Sunrise/sunset shoreline walks; bring binocs for birds.
